The Sound of the Baskervilles had a fine turn-out for our annual gathering March 11 saluting the meeting of Dr. John H. Watson & Sherlock Holmes in 1881—this year at the Olive Branch Café & Tea Room in Tacoma. We call it our “Masters’ Celebration” and this was our 35th such event!
SOB Jodi Holm acted as mistress for our drawing, which included several nice items contributed by SOB Geoff Geffrey. SOB Jean Macdonald gave a kind assist in getting name badges on everyone, an aid to the Tea Room staff in identifying which entrée belonged to whom. The Market Spice tea flowed and the Victorian décor took us right back to Olde England.
So many SOBs were there, in fact, that the Seattle Carpool Chorus barely had room to do their dramatic reading of “The Ghost of Sherlock Holmes”. SOB Margie Deck added to the festivities by providing one and all with personal Union Jack flags!
“Footprints of A Gigantic Hound Awards” were bestowed upon our Vice-President Kashena Konecki and our Webmaster Shannon Wallace. But, alas—with only one roaming trophy available each year—the two will be splitting custody of the prize
The 34th edition of our Beaten’s Christmas Annual (for 2017) was distributed, followed by much silence as everyone leafed through the 50-page volume. Of note was the cover art by SOB Al Nelson. It’s a dynamite issue filled with fun and informative contributions from 29 SOBs, an historic record for us!!! We even had 9 SOBs with multiple contributions this year! Special thanks went to SOB Margaret Nelson, who assisted with typographical editing, and Margie Deck, who found us a new printing outlet and saved the Club $300 in printing costs!
Fun, food, frivolity—it was a normal yet momentous SOB event!
